In August 2020, Beirut was hit by a catastrophic explosion that caused extensive damage, countless fatalities, and thousands of injuries. Even after 5 months, the aftermath of the blast, combined with the economic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, has had a severe impact on the affected families.WATAD has stepped in to help through its Beirut Emergency Project, which provides a range of support services to those in need. These include food parcels, hygiene kits, baby kits, blankets, health care items such as wheelchairs and crutches, psycho-social support, and dispatching home-based healthcare professionals for injured individuals.The response aimed to assist homeless families, injured persons, babies and children, elderly individuals, and persons with disabilities who have been affected by the explosion. WATAD is committed to providing essential aid and support to help those affected by this tragic event.

WATAD is committed to helping the community during the ongoing crisis in Lebanon, and one way we&#x27;re doing that is through our food parcel and cash assistance programs. With the economy in freefall and many families struggling to make ends meet, we understand the importance of providing basic necessities to those in need.Through our food parcel program, we&#x27;re providing nutritious and essential food items to families who are struggling to put food on the table. These parcels include items such as rice, pasta, lentils, canned goods, and cooking oil. Our team works tirelessly to ensure that these parcels are delivered to those who need them most.In addition to our food parcel program, we&#x27;re also providing cash assistance to families who are struggling financially. This assistance can be used to cover expenses such as rent, utilities, and medical bills. We understand that every family&#x27;s needs are different, which is why we work closely with each beneficiary to ensure that the assistance we provide is tailored to their individual circumstances.Our goal is to provide not only immediate relief but also sustainable solutions to the ongoing crisis in Lebanon. We have helped so far over 3000 beneficiaries. We believe that by working together and supporting one another, we can overcome the challenges that we face.

WATAD is actively aiding Lebanon's crisis by offering food parcels and cash assistance to struggling families. The food parcels contain essential items, while the cash aid covers diverse needs like rent and medical bills, with over 3000 beneficiaries supported for both immediate relief and long-term solutions.

Crisis Response

WATAD is currently partnering with Expertise France on the SHABAKE 2 project under component 2: Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM)Shabake came about through the desire to address the localisation of aid agenda and the need to build the capacities of Lebanese NGOs to ensure they play a key role in the response to crises in general, and more specifically to the current Syrian crisis which affects Lebanon.The project aims to support local CSOs in efficiently responding to emergency situations and ongoing crises in Lebanon.Sectors that are addressed by the project include but are not limited to: <ul><li> Access to Basic Services</li><li>Livelihoods</li><li>Food Security</li><li>Health</li></ul>WATAD will be implementing projects in the fields of its expertise in order to effectively benefit the right-holders affected by the emergencies/crises.
